IPL photorejuvenation Algonquin

What Is IPL Rejuvenation?

IPL rejuvenation, sometimes known as photorejuvenation, is a popular cosmetic treatment that uses intense pulsed light to improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin and other signs of aging. IPL rejuvenation works by targeting damaged skin cells with high-energy light waves, which causes them to gradually break down and be naturally eliminated from the body.

This treatment (also called photofacial or fotofacial) is a non-invasive procedure that makes your face look more youthful by removing sun damage, signs of rosacea, and reducing pores or acne spots.

Additionally, IPL rejuvenation can help reduce the appearance of age spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and other unwanted blemishes on the face and body.

How Does This Treatment Work?

Treatment time depends on the size and number of areas treated, but it generally takes one hour to perform the entire procedure. There may be momentary discomfort, which is assuaged with a cooling gel that helps relieve it. Following your treatment, brown spots will immediately darken and skin may appear slightly red. Any redness will dissipate within a few hours. Within 1-3 weeks, the darkened spots will flake off and fade, redness or veins will decrease, and skin tone will become much more even.

How Long Do IPL Photofacial Results Last?

1-3 treatments are usually needed to see results; however, additional treatments may be recommended for excessively sun-damaged skin. To avoid new brown spots, veins, and to diffuse redness, remember to always apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen every day. We also offer a series of treatments for the best results. IPL Photofacial treatments can be done on the arms, legs, shoulders, chest, neck, hands, and face.

Preparing for Your IPL Procedure

How do I prepare for IPL / Photorejuvenation procedure?

Your esthetician will provide thorough pretreatment instructions, answer any questions you may have, take a detailed medical history, and perform a physical exam to determine your fitness for treatment.

In advance of your procedure, your esthetician will ask you to:

  • Moisturize regularly, avoid too much exposure to the sun, and wear sunscreen with SPF30 or higher
  • Stop smoking at least six weeks before undergoing treatment to promote better healing
  • Avoid taking aspirin, certain anti-inflammatory drugs, and some herbal medications that can cause increased bleeding
  • Refrain from taking certain antibiotics and topical creams such as retinoids (Retin-A) that affect skin sensitivity
  • Regardless of the type of treatment to be performed, hydration is very important before and after treatment for safe recovery.

The morning before your photorejuvenation procedure, you should not apply any makeup or skincare products. Your face will need to be thoroughly cleansed before the treatment can begin, but this may be done at the office before treatment. It’s possible that your doctor will apply a topical anesthetic prior to treatment.

Photorejuvenation is usually performed on an outpatient basis. Be sure to arrange for someone to drive you home after treatment and to stay with you at least the first night.
