What to expect at my first visit?

Your visit will begin with an in-depth consultation with our certified acne expert. In this consultation, we will break down the root cause of your acne going over lifestyle habits, diet, environmental considerations, and more. These factors, as well as an in-depth visual analysis, will allow us to diagnose your individual type of acne. Acne comes in all shapes, sizes, and types; inflamed, non-inflamed, hormonal, cystic, teenage, adult, rosacea, and more. You’ll receive an acne bootcamp packet that will include everything we went over in your consultation, including your recommended personalized protocol. After your consultation, we will begin your first Face Reality treatment with a skin sensitivity test, hydrating facial, and light extractions if needed. We will send you home with (or order) all your protocol products at the end of your appointment and schedule your next 2 visits in your bootcamp series and get you kick started on your journey to clear skin!

How often should I come in for treatments?

In order to get clear skin as quickly as possible, we suggest you come in every 2-4 weeks for treatments over the course of 3 months. . Your acne expert will create a treatment plan best suited for your skin needs. It is important to stick to this treatment schedule to get your skin stable. The purpose of this treatment is to exfoliate the skin, extract acne impactions, hydrate the skin, and assess and adjust your home routine. We analyze and adjust your homecare routine every few weeks because your skin can adapt quickly. We need to increase the strength and adjust to get ahead of your skin’s adaptation. If you are unable to come in for your regular treatments, your skin will take longer to clear.

How long does it take to get clear skin?

Most clients see dramatic changes in their skin within 30 days. However, it can take 60-90 days to get 90%+ clear skin. This is because acne causing impactions can live in the skin for 30-90 days before they fully come to the surface. The Face Reality protocol works to prevent new acne from forming, as well as works to clear the existing acne that has already been forming. Depending on the type of acne you present with, your protocol will have your acne under control in 3-6 months. This can depend on your acne type, environment, skin color, skin sensitivity, and most importantly your commitment to the program. Remember, you are only in the office 1-2x a month, but you are at home with your protocol every morning and night. The more diligent you are to the program, the faster your skin will clear. About 80% of the success of clearing your skin comes from your home care.

What is the key to clear skin?

Honesty and diligence! We know that sounds crazy, but having open, and honest, communication with your Acne Expert is going to go the longest way. Your Face Reality protocol (both in the office and at home) is catered specifically to your needs, and if you are not honest about your lifestyle and how carefully you are following your protocol, you won’t see the results you are looking for. Following your protocol as specifically as prescribed, and true diligence, is going to provide you with the best results. Skipping steps, missing appointments, and not making the correct lifestyle adjustments will set you up for failure.

Now that my acne is clear, what about the scars? What’s next?

A lot of acne scarring is caused by discoloration, also known as hyperpigmentation, left behind by old acne lesions. Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation can be treated with a chemical peel, HydraFacial, and a home care routine targeted toward pigmentation concerns. Once your skin in clear of acne, we will adjust in your treatments and home care routine. True acne scarring may look like indentations or pitting in the skin. This type of scarring is best treated with microneedling treatments to help increase collagen production and smooth the appearance of the skin. Microneedling can only be performed on skin that is clear of acne. Just like hyperpigmentation left behind by acne, this is something we can address and adjust your in office treatments to target this concern.
